Сказка на ночь  Bedtime story

 

- Сара, ты обещала почитать мне книгу!

- Я помню. Какую сказку ты хочешь ?

- Я хочу про Изанну Уокер.  

- Это не сказка, это быль, Алиса ! Ложись, я почитаю тебе про нее.

- Sarah, you promised to read me a book!

- I remember. What kind of fairytale do you want?

- I want to know about Izannah Walker.

- It's not a fairytale; it's a true story, Alice! But get into bed and I will tell you about her.

...В далеком 1817 году в округе Бристоль в семье торговца Джилберта Уокера и его жены Сары Суэйси родилась удивительная девочка....

- Ой, Сара, а ты тоже будешь женой торговца, когда состаришься ?

- Почему именно торговца ? И почему когда состарюсь ? Я буду молодая, когда выйду замуж !

- Но ведь кузина Екатерина уже немного старая, а еще без мужа . Ей целых 15 лет!

- Алиса, не говори глупости ! Слушай дальше ! Уже темнеет, нужно зажечь свечу.

... A long time ago (in 1817 ),the family of old merchant  Gilbert Walker and his wife Sarah Swasey lived in the city of Bristol. They had an amazing girl, Izannah....

- Oh, Sarah, will you be the wife of a merchant when you grow and be an old?

- Why a merchant? Why will I be old before I get married? I will marry young.

- Can’t you see our cousin Catherine is already a little old 15 in fact, and she isn’t yet married.

- Alice, don’t be silly and listen on! 

- It's getting dark, we need to light a candle.

- Осторожно! Не задень огонь !

- Я не маленькая ! Ты как мама - всё время меня поучаешь ... (бурчит Алиса себе под нос)

- Watch out! Don’t touch the fire!

- I'm not small! You're like mother - you chastise me all the time ... (Alice mutters under her breath)

...Девочка росла на редкость смышленая и смекалистая. Она умела наравне со старшими сестрами хорошо вышивать и  шить, готовить еду , но и как мальчики, могла мастерить со своим дядей утварь для дома и вырезать деревянные игрушки для малышей. Родителей рано не стало.  Изанна со своими сестрами Энн и Джейн жили в Сомерсете у своей тёти Джейн Хинтц...

Сара устала и продолжила рассказывать уже в постели. Она знала историю удивительной женщины наизусть. Алиса просила рассказывать про нее уже много, много  раз ...

... Izannah was becoming extremely smart and savvy. She was able to embroider and sew well, along with the older sisters, she could cook food, but as a boy she could make utensils for her house with her uncle and cut out wooden toys for toddlers. Her parents were gone early. Izannah and her sisters Anne and Jane lived in Somerset with their aunt Jane Hintz ...
